Cécile Delage
Cécile Delage studied music at the Regional Conservatory of Toulouse before moving to Québec in 2012 to study musicology and classical harp performance. After obtaining her Master’s degree in 2017, she turned her attention to learning the Celtic harp and folk repertoire.
As the harp is a lesser-known instrument in Québec than in France, her mission is to promote the instrument among a wide range of activities. She founded her own harp school, under the name Aziliz, with which she took her student group, Borealys, to a harp festival in France in 2023, playing traditional Québecois repertoire.
In December 2022, she founded the Montréal Harp Society, with which they organize an annual Harp Day to introduce the instrument to as many people as possible. The association organized the first Montréal Harp Festival in September 2024.
With her classical musical background, she accompanies choirs and orchestras on the concert harp, but her favorite artistic practice remains around traditional music from Quebec and elsewhere and its development.
Her first album, Éclats, is about to be released in July 2025.
Cécile Delage a fait ses études en musique au Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Toulouse avant de venir s’installer au Québec en 2012 pour étudier la musicologie et l’interprétation en harpe classique. Après l’obtention de sa maîtrise en 2017, elle s’est consacrée à l’apprentissage de la harpe celtique et du répertoire folklorique.
La harpe étant un instrument moins connu au Québec qu’en France, elle a pour mission de faire rayonner l’instrument parmi de nombreuses activités. Elle a fondé sa propre école de harpe, sous le nom de Aziliz, avec laquelle elle a fait participer son groupe d’étudiants, Borealys, dans un festival de harpe en France en 2023, en jouant du répertoire traditionnel québécois.
Elle a aussi fondé une association de harpe officiellement depuis décembre 2022, la Société des Harpistes de Montréal avec laquelle ils organisent chaque année une Journée de la harpe pour faire découvrir l’instrument au plus grand nombre. L’association a organisé une première édition d’un Festival de Harpe à Montréal en septembre 2024.
Avec son bagage musical classique, elle accompagne des chorales et des orchestres à la harpe de concert, mais sa pratique artistique principale favorite reste autour de la musique traditionnelle du Québec et d’ailleurs et de son développement.
Son premier album, Éclats, sort au mois de juillet 2025.
