Pascal Gemme
Pascal Gemme is a leading light in Québec’s traditional music scene. He is known as much for his original compositions as for his fine interpretation of traditional tunes. Pascal has been collecting trad tunes from his native land with a passion for over twenty years, and it is this impressive repertoire that fuels his playing style. From a young age, and because of his fiddling grandfather, the music and songs of Québec have captivated him, but was only after graduating with a degree in composition and band arrangements that he immersed himself in the traditional music that surrounded him. After a concert, you’re very likely to find him sitting in a corner, at a jam session somewhere, sharing the music with other players.
Pascal Gemme collecte passionnément les mélodies de violon de sa province depuis plus de vingt ans et c’est cet imposant répertoire qui lui a permis de forger sa maîtrise technique du vocabulaire violonistique de son terroir. Ses tournées internationales avec Genticorum et en solo et sa participation à de multiples camps musicaux lui ont conféré une reconnaissance du public autant au Québec qu’à l’étranger.
Pascal a été interpelé en très bas âge par les airs de violon et les chansons qu’il entendait dans sa famille, tout particulièrement de son grand-père maternel. Toutefois, il ne s’est totalement consacré à cette musique qu’à la fin de ses études en arrangement style «Big Band» et en guitare classique et jazz à la fin des années 90.
